Company Origin
In the early '90s and after many years of experience leading a large Brazilian retail conglomerate, Luiz Francisco Novelli Viana invested as a major shareholder in two companies: an agricultural equipment distributor and a PVC packaging and logistics equipment producer. Approximately three years later, he exited both companies with significant returns.
During the same period Luiz Francisco led the Brazilian holding company Latinpart. There he had to turn around several controlled companies that were under financial distress and prepared them to be sold. Among these subsidiaries was the retail company Benetton do Brasil and the master franchise for the car rental company Hertz do Brasil.
The success of these efforts together with the improved macroeconomic status driven by the Real plan (“New Currency”) in Brazil, motivated Luiz Francisco to look for opportunities to develop the incipient local Private Equity industry. It was at this moment, in 1997, that TMG was born a pioneer firm providing consulting services to international PE players that looked to break into the burgeoning Brazilian market.
